Workplace Wellness Program

While mental health affects everyone, men often face unique challenges in seeking support and finding avenues for well-being.

Overcoming the stigma surrounding men’s mental health is one of the crucial steps in providing effective support.

Research shows that men are a third less likely than women to seek help when they need it, and even when they do engage in mental health services, they may attend fewer sessions and drop out prematurely.

To effectively support the well-being of male employees, employers and organisations can take the following three steps:

  1. Recognise the signs.
Mental health issues affect men in various ways, and it’s crucial to understand the signs and symptoms. When organisational leaders and managers are familiar with the indicators, they can work to create a workplace environment that supports early identification and intervention.
  1. Foster an atmosphere of support.
To foster an atmosphere of support, create opportunities for open conversations about mental health. Encourage employees to engage in dialogue, sharing personal experiences, and providing peer support. By breaking the stigma surrounding men’s mental health, employers can create a safe space that encourages help-seeking behaviour.
  1. Provide mental health support for employees.
Offering Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services and normalising access to them can significantly contribute to supporting the well-being of male employees.
